Bach in Hangzhou
Ning Feng returns to Hangzhou on 12 July to perform Bach’s complete Sonatas and Partitas in recital at the city’s Grand Theatre. Feng’s programme presents the works in order, alternating between sonatas and partitas.
Feng’s recording of the complete Sonatas and Partitas was released by Channel Classics in February 2018, with Gramophone praising the “expressive scope of his playing, emotionally potent yet with the most discreet use of vibrato.”
After the recital in Hangzhou, Feng travels to South Korea for two recitals at the Pyeongchang Music Festival. On 25 July he opens the recital with Nathan Milstein’s work for solo violin, Paganiniana, after which he performs Prokofiev’s Sonata for Two Violins with Svetlin Roussev. He is then joined by cellist Leonard Elschenbroich and pianist Antti Siirala for Brahms’ Piano Trio No.2. The following day, Feng leads Clara-Jumi Kang, Maxim Rysanov, Alexander Chaushian and Sunwook Kim in Korngold Piano Quintet.
