Feng debuts with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra
Feng makes his debut with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra on 15 March, performing Bernstein Serenade after Plato’s Symposium under the baton of John Wilson. The concert takes place at City Halls Glasgow, and the programme also includes Roy Harris Symphony No.3 and Copland Appalachian Spring.
Feng recently performed the piece with Konzerthausorchester Berlin and Iván Fischer, and reviews praised his “direct, highly virtuosic approach” and “shimmering sea of colour”.
Earlier in the same month, Feng returns to the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra with Rune Bergman for two performances of Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto. He recorded the piece for Channel Classics in 2014, and the disc was met with critical acclaim:
“With so many muscular performances of the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto already in the catalogue, it is pleasing to welcome Ning’s smooth and refined approach to the work’s opening movement – even in the cadenza he imparts musicianship rather than outgoing virtuosity… He has a laid-back approach to the central Canzonetta, and though it never lacks excitement, he avoids the usual hectic dash through the finale.”
